Judging will be based on:

  1. Overall impact of design
  2. Workmanship, techniques, and innovation.

Competition Rules

  1. There are 3 Categories – It is the entrants’ responsibility to ensure they have entered the correct category:
    1. Open Division
    2. Under 16’s
    3. Pet
  2. An entrant may use any technique to create their outfit or costume. Any materials may be used, but the final result in all categories must consist of at least 50% hessian fabric or hessian potato sack. The outfit must be wearable.
  3. It has to be a new outfit made between May 2023 and May 2024.
  4. If the outfit was created using a commercial pattern, this must be acknowledged on the entry form.
  5. As part of the entry process, upload a photograph of the completed outfit with the online entry form, and by doing so the entrant agrees for it to be used in publicity. The photo size must be between 2mb and 4mb. Entrants must identify each individual image with his/her surname. You can do this by renaming the photo prior to uploading.
  6. Approved entries for Open and Under 16’s and makers of Pet category entries will be allowed free access on the day and must report to the fashion parade area one hour before the parade. Details will be shared the week of the festival, however, only entries that are worn and are in the parade will be judged. Judging will be held on Sunday, May 5 at the Robertson Potato Festival at Robertson Showground, New South Wales, parade beginning at 2.30pm, and entrants to be present at 1.30pm.
  7. Only entries that are worn by either the maker or their model and in the parade will be judged. The maker must be present to accept the ‘Crown’.
  8. The deadline for Forms and Images to be entered is Friday, April 19, 2024.
  9. The judge’s decision is final, and no correspondence will be entered into.

Copyright & Moral Rights

The entrant retains copyright in the outfit and the photographs which the entrant submits with their entry save and except that the entrant grants Expertise Events Pty Ltd the right to reproduce the digital photographs submitted for the purposes of the internal judging process and/or publicity and promotion. By entering the Hessians on the Field competition an entrant gives permission to Expertise Events Pty Ltd (Expertise Events) to photograph their work and agrees and acknowledges that all copyright in the photographs that Expertise Events takes of an entrant’s outfit or work both current and future in time is that of Expertise Events. The entrant further grants to Expertise Events a licence to produce, reproduce and publish in whole or part throughout the world an entrant’s statement as is submitted on the entry form which may be used in articles, ads, promotions, catalogues, books, websites, CDs, current event news coverage, television productions, and/or multimedia productions for and about Expertise Events “events” in perpetuity from time to time.

Liability

While Expertise Events takes all care and reasonable steps to safeguard outfits while on display and parade at the festival, Expertise Events is not liable for any damage that may occur during these times. By entering the competition, you agree not to hold Expertise Events, or its staff or agents liable in any way. We encourage all entrants to take out insurance for an appropriate value that covers the entire period.
